Bike riders go very fast,No matter what's in their past. When they advance,In Tour de France,They try their best not to be Last.

‘This film is dedicated to Laurent Fignon’.That would have been so touching if the film hadn’t also insulted him to such a large extent.

Now, The Last Rider is all-American hero Greg LeMond’s unquestionably gripping and inspirational story and I accept that for dramatic reasons the film benefits from a somewhat antagonistic opponent: Fignon.

What I don’t accept is why he has to be portrayed as a ridiculous, near-moustache-twirling-and-dog-kicking villain, untamed in both aggression and arrogance. In the film, all of his setbacks are attributed to his supreme cockiness whereas LeMond excuses any setback with past trauma.

While the latter may well be a valid explanation in most cases, it is a too subjective and uncritical perspective from director Alex…

A bit bold to dedicate this doc to Laurent Fignon when all they did was talk negatively about him the entire movie.

1983 marks the first year I watched the Tour de France on TV. It’s a love affair that has lasted to this day. Greg LeMond is single-handily responsible for my indoctrination to the bike. My first road bike was a Fuji Del-Ray steel frame with “Sunquest” parts group. Greg, overall, was the last generation of riders before Armstrong and the dope train. Don’t get me wrong… riders have been cheating since the inception of the Tour de France. Doping has been ramped in cycling since people discovered better suited substances. In the 1960s it was amphetamines and strychnine. Riders would just fall over dead from dehydration and drugs. Armstrong didn’t invent doping in the sport of cycling. He’s guilty most…

Didn't know anything about the Tour de France going into the film, but then somehow ended up pulled in by the drama and competition. A great redemption story, even if it's very standard in its telling. Not a big fan of the way it gives the main subject such an easy time when it comes to his setbacks while painting his opponent in such a bad light.

saw this for my dad’s birthday because he is an avid cyclist and fan of cycling….and now maybe i am too🫣 who knew the tour de france was SO INSANE!!

  • Review by Vernon Palmer ★★★★★ 1

This is the Tour de France that made me into a cycling fan, but there were a lot of details that made it even better. Greg LeMond is the GOAT of US cycling!

  • Review by Christopher Cooper ★★★★ 4

A very compelling and touching story, Alex Holmes' documentary about American pro-cyclist Greg LeMond is an inspiring tale of overcoming tragedy and setbacks in order to achieve the ultimate victory - in his case the maillot jaune in the Tour de France.

As told through actual race footage interspersed with interviews and anecdotes, the documentary successfully evokes the era with the story brilliantly aided through candid home video and behind the scenes footage. On a side note, and yes, I have said this before and will say it again here - nothing takes me out of a modern "documentary" more than bullshit re-enactments or slow-mo dramatizations. The best docs (like this one and it's spiritual father Senna) use real footage,…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Engaging documentary about the life and Cycling Careere of Greg Lamonde. Did not realize it was a documentary when I sat down to watch it. As a rule I don't give them scores as it would be like reviewing a news broadcast. I will say it gives insights into professional cycling and the personal struggles of Greg I never knew.
