Overview

Toukon: Matrimelee (known in Japan as Toukon: Matrimelee - Shin Gouketsuji Ichizoku, which is loosely translated to "Wedding: Matrimelee - True Gouketsuji Clan Dependents") is a 2D comedic fighting game developed by Noise Factory and released by Playmore for arcades (running Neo Geo MVS hardware) on May 29, 2003. It was also published for the Neo Geo AES on the same day.

The fourth main installment of the Power Instinct series of fighting games (and the first to not be developed by Atlus), Matrimelee uses the same game engine and art style as Noise Factory's earlier games Sengoku 3 and Rage of the Dragons. Some characters from Rage of the Dragons also appear as hidden guest fighters.

The game's story is a soft reboot of the series, featuring most of the roster from Power Instinct 2 (with some name and costume changes). It takes place in the fictional land of Certain Country, where its King holds a grand martial arts tournament seeking to find a worthy successor for the throne. All of the main fights take place on a grand concert stage with a live musical performance in the background (with comical themes in a variety of different genres).

The game serves as the base for both its 2006 console spin-off and its 2009 arcade sequel.
